The second most largest automaker in U.S. want to start a niche or creating small fuel efficient engines of the future. The engine would be so small that it would have the displacement a soda bottle. The small engine is just the first of the Ford's efforts to push through the greater fuel economy and adhere to the federal standards which is growing more stricter. The new engine dubbed as the 1.0 litter Ecoboost engine will have the torque and power of its popular and widely used 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine. It gets it fuel economy by employing turbocharging, direct injection and twin-independent variable camshaft timing. At an event at Ford's product development center, Derrick Kuzak, head of product development, said that they are just trying to ways to improve fuel economy by paying attention to designs up the very small details of it. Ford also cleared that this type of engine is designed for small cars like when it was first publicly seen in a concept car at the 2010 Beijing auto show. Two years worth or research and development cost the small engine. Finally, the engine release date will be announced in the coming Frankfurt auto show this coming September. The company also announced that it would be developing its own hybrid transmission which would replace those they are currently getting from its Japanese Supplier Aisin. They are planning for an eight speed transmission which would also improve fuel economy. The new hybrid transmission will come from their Van Dyke transmission plant in Detroit to start later this year. It is not common for an American car to have such small engine, but not when it comes to Europe. Fiat has 875-cc, two cylinder engine that can move a little less that 50 miles per gallon. The tighter federal fuel economy standards set that 2016 model year cars and trucks should be at least 35.5 miles per gallon on average. Six years earlier to that target, the 2010 models of the top 14 automakers averaged at 22.5 miles per gallon. That's still a very long way to go. You can talk about...
